Dealing with Death | By Dr Sara Ireland
Yes, death happens to us all. We all die. Life is too precious to deny the key stage of death.
Not every death is a tragedy and some deaths are a shock, uninvited and incredibly sad. If you love someone, you can miss them terribly. But we need to embrace the hurt of death so we can start to grieve. They may or may not be ‘passing’ or ‘passing on’ but they have died.
Our relationships are complicated in life and our grief can be complicated in death but we should not turn away from it, romanticize it, water it down.
Our children can be left confused and our emotional responses delayed when we exclude death from the conversation.
