Angela’s Story

Angela knew she was struggling increasingly with the management of a couple of chronic health conditions. Her GP told her about the Atrium service and how she could access a single session to review her wellbeing in the face of these long term health issues and multiple medications. She was a bit reluctant at first to have another appointment with health professionals but her GP told her a little bit more about what other patients had said about the service and how helpful they had found it.

By the time Angela was in touch with the clinic, she talked to one of the Atrium team’s experienced co-ordiantors of care about what her goals would be for the session. She booked the appointment early evening which suited her most and the practitioner was already aware of what she wanted from the session so they could really focus on making the most from their meeting. Angela’s battle with tiredness and pain was carefully considered together and Angela noticed that she no longer walked as much and that some of her pain had increased since that change as had the quality of sleep. They also considered how Angela was anticipating pain at certain times of day and focusing on it and so they considered the power of distraction, gentle exercise and social time instead. Angela set up a plan to support her with the clinician and was invited to review in another year as required. Two weeks later the clinic received an email.
