Case Study
Lois’ Story
Lois aged 50,has been out of work for 12 months. She was working in a business, and the work demands got too much and she quit her job telling her employer that she was leaving for other reasons , namely her husband had retired, and she wanted to spend more time with him. when she left work, it took several months to get over the anxious feelings and worries and get her sleep back to something like normal.
She visited her GP and she was understanding and felt there was a possible impact of the Menopause that accentuated the intensity of distress she felt. Lois wanted to get back to work but worried that she would not cope, and she was ‘terrified’ of the thought of work. She was referred to Atrium for support in getting back to work.
Lois says, ‘The first thing they did was just be nice and reassuring to me about the process. They set up an assessment with a psychologist to understand me and my fears a bit more and then we made a plan which involved a bit of counselling with another lady, who was also very nice. We worked on my anxious feelings and there were handouts, resources and check-in calls too.
When I was almost ready to start applying for jobs, they gave me some support on CV writing and interviews, and nothing was too much trouble. So yes, it’s me, Lois, 3 months later and I am proud to work with one of the UK’s best supermarkets. I’m loving the friendships at work and enjoying the job. Thank you everyone including the coordinating team’. You are fab’.
